This Ramadan, the labs at Aptech Qatar were buzzing with a different kind of energy as students took part in the Ramadan Speed Coding Competition. Designed to test precision, speed, and analytical thinking, the event challenged aspiring developers to prove their mastery of Python under intense pressure.

The competition was structured over a high-stakes four-day period, spanning two weeks of rigorous knockout rounds.

The Challenge: Precision Under Pressure

Unlike traditional coding marathons, this competition focused on the critical skill of debugging. Participants were handed complex Python scripts riddled with intentional flaws—ranging from subtle typos and missing syntax to deep-seated logic errors.

The catch? Students had a maximum of 10 to 20 minutes to identify and fix the issues. The golden rule of the competition was simple but demanding: Read the ENTIRE code before touching the keyboard.

The event wasn’t just about finding errors; it was a platform for students to showcase their unique problem-solving styles. By navigating the “complex landscape” of pre-written code, participants demonstrated that being a great programmer is as much about reading and understanding logic as it is about writing it.

The goal was to push our students to look past the obvious,” said the organizing team at Aptech Qatar. “In a real-world IT environment, the ability to fix a critical error in minutes is what separates a technician from a specialist.
